About the Instructor
Kelly is an active USPSA sport shooting competitor, a Certified Firearms Instructor and Range Safety Officer by the National Rifle Association and California DOJ Certified Instructor.
Kelly discovered the world of firearms as a young adult when introduced to shooting by a few friends. Something clicked inside and she fell in love with shooting. After purchasing her first gun, she sought education and training to gain more proficiency and skills. As time went on, she began to look for new challenges and gun related activities, and discovered shooting sports and competitions like USPSA and GSSF.
Throughout the years, Kelly noticed a lack of diversity and representation in the gun community. She sometimes found herself one of the few or only women at the range, in matches or in firearms training classes. She believed there needed to be more women in this field.
Recognizing the need for more representation in the industry and inspired by the rise of new diverse and inclusive gun communities, Spectrolite Training was born.
Kelly wanted to do her part to be a positive ambassador for women and minorities in the gun world. Spectrolite Training was founded to help introduce and educate new shooters on firearms safety, basic fundamentals of shooting and responsible gun ownership.
She hopes to not only share her love of shooting, but to help destigmatize and demystify guns for those new or unfamiliar with them. She would love to help more people, especially women and those who are targeted and marginalized, become empowered, and acquire the knowledge and self confidence to protect and defend themselves and their loved ones if necessary.
Kelly believes shooting is a lifelong journey of learning, and continues to seek out education and train to continually grow as a shooter and hone her craft as an instructor.
In her former life, she was a professional bartender with a dedication to hospitality and a love of craft cocktails and whiskey. She also enjoys biking, music, and is cat Mom to a lovable white cat named Varro and brown and white cat named Nikka.
